Modern polyester is nothing like the cheap, shiny material of decades past. Today's manufacturing techniques create fabrics with matte textures that convincingly mimic linen, silk, or cotton. For blackout curtains, polyester is essentially the only viable option. The three-layer structure (face layer, light-blocking core, and backing) requires stable synthetic fibres that won't deform over time. Natural Fabrics

Bedroom: Polyester blackout for total darkness, paired with decorative drapes in silk or a linen blend. Silk works well in bedrooms because the curtains are usually closed and protected from direct sun by the blackout layer.
Living room: Linen-blend fabrics are the top choice. They create a warm atmosphere while being practical enough for daily use. For panoramic windows on the sunny side, add a polyester sheer layer to absorb the brunt of the UV exposure.
