What to check before ordering blackout curtains

Fabric and your room’s needs

Explain when you need a darker room: for daytime rest, a bedroom or watching films. Compare samples at the window. Do not choose solely by dark colour or fabric weight; ask for the selected material’s specifications and see how it looks against the light.

Tracks and light gaps

During the survey, check the space above the window, side edges, panel overlap and distance from the floor. Opaque fabric does not stop light passing around it. Agree on the fitting method and curtain dimensions together with the fabric.

Wide windows and controls

For panoramic glazing, allow for balcony access and the space occupied by open curtains. If you want a motorised track, discuss power, controls and compatibility with the selected system before installation.

Daylight and survey preparation

For softer daytime light, consider combining blackout curtains with sheer curtains. Compare roller blinds if you prefer a compact treatment. Before the survey, prepare photos of the window, existing track or ceiling recess and approximate dimensions. Final measurements and the specification are confirmed on site.
