Japanese Panels — Minimalism and Functionality
Japanese panels (also called Japanese curtains) are sliding fabric panels mounted on a multi-track ceiling rail. The design is inspired by traditional Japanese shoji screens and fits seamlessly into modern minimalist interiors. Each panel, 60 to 120 cm wide, glides along its own track like a sliding door, creating a perfectly smooth surface with no folds or drapes.
Japanese panels are the ideal solution for the panoramic glazing that Dubai's skyscrapers and apartments are known for. How to Choose Japanese Panels
How many panels and tracks you need
Each panel runs on its own track, so the number of tracks depends on the number of panels and the width of the opening. When open, the panels stack together and cover part of the glass roughly the width of one panel. Think about which side of the window or door the stack should sit on so it does not block the way or the view. We work out the exact panel and track layout at the measurement visit.
Which fabric to choose
Translucent fabrics soften the sun and keep the view — a good choice for a living room with panoramic glazing. Dimout and blackout fabrics suit bedrooms and studies. Since every panel has its own track, you can discuss mixing sheer and dense panels on one rail. Fabrics and colours are chosen from current samples.
Panels as room dividers
Japanese panels can work as a light partition — for example to separate a work area or a walk-in wardrobe. The rail is fixed to the ceiling, so at the measurement we check the base: concrete, plasterboard or a suspended ceiling. Panels do not replace sound insulation or a solid wall, but they divide the space visually without renovation.
Operation
Panels are moved by hand — by the edge of the fabric or with a wand. For tall windows and large openings a motorised track is more convenient: remote, app or smart home control depend on the chosen motor, and we check compatibility when preparing the quote.
